Robert Davidson was born in his mother’s village in Hydaburg, Alaska in 1946.When he was an infant his family moved to Old Masset, Queen Charlotte Islands, British Columbia.Davidson’s father, Claude Davidson, and his grandfather, Robert Davidson, Sr., both carvers, began to teach him to carve wood and argillite when he was 13.Davidson’s great-grandfather, Charles Edenshaw, was another source of inspiration for the artist.Edenshaw is considered the most significant carver of traditional Haida-style art in the 19th century.
