Fossil Whalebone Carving, Activity Scene with Fossilized Walrus Ivory Inlay This activity scene is carved from a fossil whale vertabrate by Roy Weyiouanna, an Inupiaq native from Shishmaref, Alaska. It includes baleen and fossilized walrus ivory details. Roy lives in the traditional subsistence lifestyle of his people.He was taught to carve whalebone at an early age, by his elders.He comes from a family of carvers.His parents Esau and Alene Weyiouanna were among Shishmaref’s most accomplished reindeer horn doll making teams. Roy’s work is well recognized by art collectors, and was featured in the American Indian Art magazine.
