Newly Wed Mask This hand carved mask is by Haida artist T.J. Young. He grew up in Hydaburg, Alaska and began carving in 1997 when he received his first set of carving tools from his mother.Since then, T.J. primarily worked with artists David Boxley, Warren Peele, Stan Marsden, and Vernon Stephens.T.J. primarily works in cedar, alder, and yew wood.He crates masks, poles, rattles, panels, sculpture, and limited edition paintings.He is a member of the Yaadaas Clan which is Eagle/Beaver and his work is created entirely in the traditional Haida style.T.J. still resides in his hometown of Hydaburg in the summer to carve and fish, then spends his winters in anchorage.
