Purple and Black Kwakiutl Raven Mask This hand carved Kwakiutl raven mask is made from cedar by Eddie McDougall. It includes black feathers and cedar bark strips on a black stand. Tlakwa’gila or “copper maker” is the name of the man known outside of the Kwakakwa’wakw or Kwakwala speaking people as Ed McDougall.Ed received his Indian name during a ceremony honoring the launching of the Galuda (canoe which attended the Gaatuwas festival in Bella Bella, British Columbia).Ed assisted in the carving of the canoe which took over three months to construct.Ed was also one of the crew who paddled the Galuda from AlertBay along the coast to Bella Bella.
